WorldTradeCenter-Angel Eyes-7:2001

I took this photograph of the World Trade Center towers at a tilted angle, a nod to the leaning Tower of Pisa. I could never imagine that this image would take on a whole new meaning given the horrific events that unfolded just two months later on September 11, almost 18 years ago.

What had also caught my eye was a billboard in the foreground advertising an upcoming film entitled “Angel Eyes,” an image with a ghost-like aura. Some ads for a cell phone company appear with phrases like — “I’m Lost” and “I’ll Find You.” If you’ll recall, in the hours after the towers collapsed, cell phone networks were overloaded. People had difficulty contacting their loved ones to let them know they were OK.

So as the anniversary of this tragic day approaches, let us take a moment to honor and remember the lives that were lost in New York, at the Pentagon in Virginia and in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania.
